On Friday, I flew home from the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois! After filibustering my alarm clock all weekend, I could not wait to share how I put the First District of Virginia front and center on the national stage! First, the First District and Virginia delegationsunanimously allotted our delegates to Vice-President Kamala Harrisfor the Democratic nomination for President of the United States! We also signed off on our 2024 party platform, tackling paramount issues for the First District—like reforming public education, supporting our veterans, and investing in the infrastructure that connects our communities and funds thousands of union jobs. Second, as a member of the LGBTQ+, Youth, Labor, and Senior caucus and councils at the DNC, I had the chance to hear from and chat with national leaders like Congressman John Larson, the top Democrat on the House Subcommittee on Social Security. We discussed how, with majorities in the House and Senate and President Kamala Harris in the White House, Democrats would lift or eliminate the payroll tax cap and oppose any Republican attempts to cut your hard-earned Social Security benefits, raise the retirement age, or privatize the program. Third, I helped work and pitched in at the 2024 Feminist Equalitea DNC fundraiser, working to extend the deadline for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In our district, where women drive our local economy and community life, the ERA would ensure that we recognize and reward hard work equally. The highlight of the fundraiser was meeting my hero since middle school, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. I got to speak with her briefly about the hardworking women in my life and my profound admiration for her transformative work in Congress over the past four decades. Finally, I jumped on two national programs and podcasts to promote the First District and enjoy laughs with my fellow Democrats. I joined Jennifer Welch and Angie Sullivan from the I've Had It Podcast on TikTok to expose all the things you did not know Democrats have had it with. With over 1.1 million followers, in just 48 hours, our video pulled in 64 thousand views and nearly 8,000 likes and shares. I also sat down with Judy Woodruff from PBS NewsHour and took selfies with my friend Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor on America at a Crossroads, where we tackled political polarization and what lies ahead in 2024. I shared how folks in the First District solve crises by coming together as neighbors. With Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Tim Kaine, and Leslie Mehta on our side, we can fight for a political agenda that puts the First District squarely where she belongs: first. Watch below. Thank you, First District Democrats, for electing me to represent you at the Democratic National Convention. As the youngest delegate in history to represent the First, I am excited to "do something" and make history again in November.

LINKEDIN,Hi y’all doing? (The attached picture says it all), ---- MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when both their ideological views are Marxist? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when neither of these candidates will face the media with a plan or policy for their Presidential administration? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when the Biden administration that both participated in failed so miserably? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when Vice President Kamala Harris nor Tim Walz will do anything to curtail the invasion at our southern border when they both advocate for illegal immigrants to be granted universal health care, an ID and an EBT card at your expense. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when both are the most radical liberal politicians ever; even to the left of Bernie Sanders? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when they flip-flop continuously on unpopular liberal positions just to get elected? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when neither one of these candidates has ever owned a business, went to business school, or met payroll for an employee, and it appears by their avoidance of news conferences, that neither understands economics. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when they loudly and forcefully proclaimed that America should defund the police and one of them even said that ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) workers doing their jobs were akin to the Ku Klux Klan. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when Vice President Kamala Harris was the deciding vote on the trillions of dollars in spending that thrust our country into an inflationary period not seen in 40 years? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when both candidates advocate for Transgender issues where men are allowed in women’s sports, condoms in women’s bathrooms, and tampons in men’s bathrooms, and would allow the castration of young boys and gender counseling of children without parental consent. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME: How can you vote for a Harris/Walz for President ticket when both advocate raising taxes in an already economically stressed and inflationary environment? MAKE IT MAKE SENSE FOR ME, PLEASE!My point in sharing all this is that if this country goes forward with a Harris and Walz Presidential Administration, given current regional conflicts with the potential for a third world war and our present economic ills, I guarantee that nothing will change for the better, but rather grow worse. Donald Trump is the change that our country needs at such a time as this!

Supporters for Donald Trump and Kamala Harris typically come from various demographic groups and have diverse reasons for their support. Here’s a breakdown of some key groups that tend to support each candidate:Donald Trump Supporters:Conservatives: Trump receives strong support from conservative voters who align with his policies on taxation, deregulation, immigration restrictions, and his appointments to the judiciary.White Voters: Trump has significant support among White voters, particularly those without college degrees. He has appealed to this demographic through promises of economic revitalization, protectionist trade policies, and cultural conservatism.Evangelical Christians: Trump has garnered substantial support from evangelical Christians due to his stance on issues such as abortion, religious freedom, and support for Israel.Rural and Small-Town America: Voters in rural and small-town areas often support Trump for his focus on issues affecting these communities, such as agriculture, gun rights, and opposition to environmental regulations.Business Community: Trump's business background and promises of pro-business policies, including tax cuts and deregulation, have earned him support from segments of the business community.Anti-Establishment Voters: Trump's outsider status and criticism of the political establishment resonate with voters who are disillusioned with traditional politicians and Washington D.C. politics.Kamala Harris Supporters:Democrats: Harris receives support from a broad spectrum of Democratic voters who appreciate her progressive policies on healthcare, climate change, immigration reform, and social justice issues.Women: Harris has strong support among women voters, particularly those who see her as a trailblazer and advocate for women's rights and gender equality.People of Color: Harris, as a woman of color, has significant support among African American, Hispanic, Asian American, and other minority voters who see her candidacy as a historic opportunity and align with her policies on racial justice and equality.Young Voters: Harris appeals to younger voters who are attracted to her progressive policies, including support for student debt relief, criminal justice reform, and affordable housing.Urban and Suburban Voters: Voters in urban centers and suburbs, where Democratic support is typically stronger, are key supporters of Harris due to her policies on healthcare, education, and infrastructure.LGBTQ+ Community: Harris has support from LGBTQ+ voters due to her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights, including support for marriage equality and protections against discrimination. These are generalized groupings, and individual voter support can vary widely based on personal beliefs, socioeconomic status, and regional considerations. Both candidates' ability to mobilize and energize these support bases will be crucial in any election campaign.

We must do better. System change takes all of us. How do you show up for women in politics (creating a better world for us all)? A few easy ways:🟢 Give $ to candidates or orgs supporting women candidates (like The Matriots!) 🟢 Host a gathering of friends to meet a local elected official or candidate🟢 Go to a meeting (school board, city council, county commission, legislative hearing, etc), and send the elected official a note about something you learned. Share that info on your social feed and tag them.🟢 write an op Ed or guest column supporting women candidates or electeds (dm me if you want some starting language)🟢 speak out against anything that makes women candidates less safe. Call it when you see it online, in person, in private conversation, or in public. 🟢 encourage her to run. Offer to be her volunteer campaign manager, treasurer, yard sign deliverer, graphic artist, social coordinator, volunteer manager, fundraiser, scheduler, photographer, hype woman, babysitter, grocery shopper, idea bouncer…anything. Be specific with your skills and generous with your time.🟢 vote for her. I’ve got more ways. But pick one, then do more. #ElectWomen

Project 2025 spells out second Trump term in alarming detail. That is no stretch | OpinionAfter reading the Project 2025 document it has the potential to cause harm to minorities, women of childbearing age, undocumented immigrants, and LGBTQ communities.I can confidently say that if put into effect, it has the potential to cause immense harm tominority communities, women of childbearing age, undocumented immigrants, public education, diversity, equity and inclusion programs, unions, and the LGBTQ community.Project 2025 aims to reduce the size of federal agencies, ban abortion drugs, and overhaul popular programs like the Affordable Care Act — as "alarming." One claimed that if Trump is re-elected and implements Project 2025, it would grant him unprecedented and potentially dangerous powers unlike any occupant of the White House in American history.Document calls for ending civil service protections, expanding presidencyThe document lays out specific policy proposals and aims to have vetted conservatives in place in the early days of a new administration in order to take sweeping actions during the first 180 days in office.“Everyone should be reading this because this would take things back to the 1950s,” said Maurice Cunningham, a retired professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Boston.Sounding the alarm:This version of Christianity distorts faith and destroys democracyRoberts, the leader of the Heritage Foundation, believes that Republicans are in the process of reclaiming the country. On Steve Bannon's podcast earlier this month, Roberts said America is is in the midst of a “second American Revolution” that will be bloodless “if the left allows it to be.”This could also lead to dismantling DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs in the workplace. During Trump's presidency he was able to nominate three hardline conservatives to the Supreme Court, in a move that tilted the court 6-3 to the right — a court that issued a historic ruling early this month giving presidents sweeping immunity protections for actions taken in office. (in addition to reversing Roe v. Wade, and taking power away from institutions and giving it to the Supreme Court.)Trump could gain the power to dismantle federal agencies, remove dissenting individuals who disagree with him, and give him dictator-like powers.“He essentially wouldn’t have to answer to anyone,” Jackson said.It does not support people who look like me or come from similar backgrounds. It also fails to address the progress of minority groups, the underprivileged, women, or LGBTQ individuals, which is clearly problematic. The document would have benefited from having a diversity of writers.

Like so many things in my life, Thursday’s fundraising call started out as a social media post. A few hours after President Biden announced he wasn’t running and endorsed Kamala Harris’ to be the nominee, I watched Black women instantly mobilize to uplift and support her. The same evening of the announcement, there was a conference call organized in record time by “Win with Black Women,” which amazingly amassed over 44,000 participants and raised over $1.5 million for Kamala Harris. It made me wonder whether white women could—and would—do the same. So on Tuesday morning I Tweeted, “It’s time to organize a white women conference call like the Black women and men have held. Who’s in?” The response was off the charts overwhelming—white women came out of the woodwork to tell me they, too, wanted to show up for the Vice President. I reached out to Jotaka Eaddy the organizer of the “Win with Black Women” to get her counsel. She told me that white women did need to come together in community to do the work, because white women’s work is very different—we are starting at a significant deficit. White women in America make up about 40 percent of the electorate, making us the nation's largest voting bloc. But since the 1950s, a majority of us have voted for Republican presidential candidates in all but two presidential elections. And despite repeated predictions before every election that white women might shift toward a Democratic presidential candidate, it hasn’t happened.“White Women: Answer the Call, Show Up for Kamala Harris” ended up being the most attended Zoom in history and raised over $11 million for Harris’ campaign. The Zoom was much more like a reckoning than a rally. We talked about how we can activate our privilege, platform and power to finally vote for the candidate who will protect all children—not just our own. We acknowledged the role white women must play to help save our democracy. We committed to take responsibility and action to elect Vice President Harris. And we vowed to take the next step: working within a larger coalition of women who have been doing this work incredibly effectively for decades.White women are not a monolith; our voting patterns are divided along lines of religion, education, and marital status, and that division makes us not only a crucial voting bloc, but an unpredictable one — even the smallest shifts in our voting behavior can have significant impacts on election outcomes. That means that if we do the work, white women can flip the script this time and vote as a majority. Join the coalition: sign up for the Women for Kamala Harris coalition call on Monday, July 29 at 7 pm ET:

Glendale has joined the California Equal Pay Pledge - an initiative to help close the pay gap in California led by the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls and the Office of the First Partner, in partnership with the California Partners Project. The gender pay gap disproportionately harms women. In the U.S., full-time female workers typically earn 84 cents for every dollar men make. In California, this gap persists across occupations and education levels. Black women lose $22,692 annually, Latinas $29,724, and Native women $28,797 per data from the National Women's Law Center.“By adopting this pledge, Glendale becomes a model city in California and the nation, marking a significant step towards a brighter future for women, girls, and equity. It's crucial to address disparities faced by women and the added layered disparities for minority women and women of color. With only one hired female department head and only seven women elected to the City Council in the history of our Jewel City, it is evident change is needed and we must be intentional in this space. Prioritizing pay equity, dismantling biases and barriers, and reviewing internal practices not only empower women but also strengthen the economy, families, and society as a whole,” stated Mayor Asatryan.Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gWUVbBE9.

Last week at Netroots Nation 2024, I led an expert panel on the impact of women of color as voters and leaders in the progressive space and Democratic politics. Here are some takeaways:1️⃣ Women of color elected officials are the biggest champions of progressive legislation change addressing the social safety net, criminal justice reform and other interlocking issues from a progressive perspective. According to research released in 2020 conducted by the Scholars Strategy Network of 15 state legislatures2️⃣Women of color are a fraction of the elected officials at the federal and statewide level. (62.3% of all women voting members of Congress are white and 76.8% of all women statewide elected executives are white). It will take a lot more work for Black, Latina, and Asian women to get to parity in public office and they need more support as candidates3️⃣ Women of color voters are the strongest base of support for the Democratic Party, but they need to be mobilized to turnout. In 2020: 92% of Black women voters, 65% of Latinas, and 69% of AAPI women supported the Biden-Harris ticket in the election.4️⃣ Funders need to give money to women of color led organizations and campaigns on the ground to turn out communities of color in elections year round and elect progressive candidates. Not just in the final 60 days of the electionLearn anything new about these takeaways and the women's vote?#NN24#WomenofColorLead#WomeninPolitics#2024Elections

https://lnkd.in/e_CPjsFSJuly 12, 2024HEATHER COX RICHARDSONJUL 13, 2024..."At stake in Grothman’s erasure of the last sixty years is the #equality of #women and #minorities to the white men who previously exercised virtually complete control of #American society. That equality translates into a struggle over the nature of the American #government. Since the 1870s, during the #reconstruction of the American government after the Civil War, white reactionaries insisted that opening the #vote to anyone but white men would result in socialism.Their argument was that poor voters—by which they meant Black men—would elect leaders who would promise them roads and schools and hospitals, and so on. Those public benefits could be paid for only with tax levies, and since white men held most of the property in the country in those days, they insisted such benefits amounted to a redistribution of wealth from hardworking white men to undeserving Black Americans, even though poor white people would benefit from those public works as much as or more than Black people did. This argument resurfaced after World War II as an argument against Black and Brown voting and, in the 1970s, against the electoral power of “women’s libbers,” that is, women who called for the federal government to protect the rights of women equally to those of men. Beginning in 1980, when Republican presidential candidate Ronald Reagan called for rolling back the government regulations and social safety net that underpinned society, a gap appeared in voting behavior. Women, especially Black women, tended to back the Democrats, while men moved toward Republican candidates. Increasingly, Republican leaders used racist and sexist tropes to undermine the active government whose business regulations they hated. For the radical extremists who have taken over the Republican Party, getting rid of the modern government that regulates business, provides a basic social safety net, promotes infrastructure, and protects civil rights is now gospel as they try to replace it with Christian nationalism. ” ...
