The Magnificent Seven(12a)
Starring: DenzelWashington, Chris Pratt, PeterSarsgaard, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, Byung-Hun Lee
The low down:
A remake of the 1960 classic, this cowboy film sees seven (hence the name) outlaws club together to help a town fight against a bunch of violentthieves. While they originally do it for the money, they soon find themselves immersed in the town's plight.
Who's it for? Those who want a good ol' gun slingin' western.
What the experts say:
“[Director] Fuqua’srenditiondelivers plenty of quick-draw action and is respectful to the source material;it just can’t challenge the epic romanticism or magnificence of the 60sclassic.” Radio times, external
“The new Seven isn'taiming for cinema immortality. It's two hours of hardcore, shoot-em-up pow andit's entertaining as hell.” Rolling Stone, external
“A remake that would have been more aptly called The Adequate Seven.” Variety, external
Worth seeing? It's obviously nothing new and people are saying it's not as good as the 1960 version, but that doesn't mean it's not a good way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Go in with the expectation of wanting to be entertained rather than amazed and you'll do fine with this flick.
The Girl With All The Gifts(15)
Starring: Gemma Arterton,Glenn Close, Paddy Considine
The low down:
What starts off as a weird boarding school - where the kids are collected from jail-like cells in the morning and taken to classes -soon turns into a zombie-apocalyptic thriller. Humans are becoming outnumbered by zombies, but these children are a hybrid of the two and may well hold the secret to finding a cure.
Who's it for? Fans of Walking Dead and the sci-fi film A.I.
What the experts say:
“Stands apart from otherZombie films, yet still includes the element of surprise, The Girl With All TheGifts, is one film that is definitely worth checking out." Heyuguys, external
"The best zombie-ishapocalypse in years. Sennia Nanua is a major discovery, but it’s the densesocial commentary and moral dilemmas that will haunt you." Empire, external
"A suspenseful opening and macabre climax make The Girl with All the Gifts a worthy attempt to do something different with the zombie genre. It has more brains than many zombie movies, but gorehounds won't find much to satisfy their appetite." CNET, external
Worth seeing? Yes, this one looks like a corker.

Imperium (15)
Starring: Daniel Radcliffe,Toni Collette
The low down:
Loosely based on the story ofMichael German, an undercover FBI agent who spent time with whitesupremacists, this focuses on Nate Foster (Radcliffe),an agent who's sent to infiltrateright-wing extremists before they launch a deadly attack.
Who's it for? Those who wantsocio-political issues thrown in with their nail-bitting drama.
What the experts say:
"It's Radcliffe, sportingan impeccable American accent, who carries the film on his slim shoulders.Revealing the same career adventurousness seen in such recent bold choices asSwiss Army Man and the off-Broadway play Privacy, the young actor is veryeffectively putting his Harry Potter days behind him." The Hollywood Reporter, external
"A slick, well made and engrossingthriller." Den of Geek, external
"Images of white Americansexcoriating other races and giving the Nazi salute have long been a surefireway to get moviegoers’ blood boiling, and Mr. Ragussis pushes that buttonrelentlessly, as if illuminating this world for the first time. That makes thefilm feel more like a red-meat orgy than the psychological study it might havebeen." New YorkTimes, external
Worth seeing? Much has been made of just how different Radcliffe is in this compared to his most famous of characters, Harry Potter. That is kind of obvious given they are entirely different roles - however, it does seem that this could be the film which introduces him to a whole new audience and separateshim away from his past achievements. For that reason it's worth seeing. Even if the story is a bit predictable.

"It’s a funny, tenderly harrowing film. As a picture of ticking intergenerational lives and their complex movements, it’s as exact as a watch." Financial Times, external
"Little Men is an immensely powerful film that finds heart in the most dire of situations." City A.M., external
Worth seeing?
Well two out of three of the above reviews gave it5/5 stars (the other, Financial Times just less at 4/5). So you could be on to a real winner with this indie flick.
