Jetour T2: Malaysia's Newest SUV - A Comprehensive Review (2025)

Get ready to meet the Jetour T2, a bold new SUV that’s turning heads at the ACE 2025 expo—and it’s not just because of its eye-catching design. But here’s where it gets controversial: with an estimated price tag of RM179k, this mid-sized SUV is significantly pricier than Jetour’s other models, leaving many to wonder if it’s worth the premium. Let’s dive in.

Welcome to our live coverage of the paultan.org Auto Car Expo, proudly co-sponsored by Carro and Kärcher. Among the standout brands here is Jetour, showcasing the highly anticipated T2 SUV. While the car made its initial appearance at the Malaysia Autoshow in May, today marks the debut of its right-hand-drive version, ahead of its official Q1 2026 launch. Bookings are now open with a RM1,000 fee, though the RM178,888 price estimate has already sparked debate—especially when compared to the VT9, which caps at RM124,350.

And this is the part most people miss: despite its rugged, boxy styling reminiscent of the Ford Bronco—complete with square headlights, a large illuminated grille, and an 'external spare tyre' (actually a storage box)—the T2 is a unibody vehicle, not a body-on-frame. Measuring 4,785 mm long, 2,006 mm wide, and 1,880 mm tall, it’s nearly 100 mm longer than the Honda CR-V and just 45 mm shorter than the seven-seater Hyundai Santa Fe. That’s a lot of SUV for the money—or is it?

Inside, the T2 embraces a Chinese 4×4-inspired aesthetic, featuring a robust dashboard, chunky silver trim, Allen bolt accents, and an oblong steering wheel. The tech is impressive too, with a 10.25-inch instrument display and a massive 15.6-inch touchscreen. However, the display unit at the expo isn’t fully representative of local specs. Expect the final version to include dual power-adjustable front seats with memory, faux leather upholstery, a panoramic glass roof, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-speaker Sony sound system, a 360-degree camera, and six airbags.

Under the hood, the T2 packs a punch with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine borrowed from the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro, delivering 254 PS and 390 Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed wet dual-clutch transmission. But here’s the kicker: Jetour also plans to introduce a plug-in hybrid variant, pairing a 1.5-liter turbo engine with a three-speed dedicated hybrid transmission (DHT) and a 224 PS electric motor. Battery options include 26.7 kWh and 43.24 kWh units, offering pure electric ranges of 100 km and 161 km, respectively. Is this enough to justify the price, or is Jetour stretching too far?

Bold claim alert: Jetour touts the T2 as its first model with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving features, including autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist, and even an 'intelligent dodging' system. But here’s the twist: the display unit lacks a windscreen camera, raising questions about how these features will perform in real-world conditions. Will it live up to the hype?

The T2 will initially arrive as a fully imported CBU model, with locally assembled CKD versions set to roll out later from the Berjaya Assembly plant in Johor. If you’re curious to see it in person, ACE 2025 is open today and tomorrow from 9 am to 7 pm at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC).
