What is the most strict school in China?
It's no secret that education, and the strict discipline that comes with it, is now a prized facet of Chinese culture. School is mandatory from grades 1-9, with a 91.4% attendance rate for secondary schools in 2021.
Education in China is primarily managed by the state-run public education system, which falls under the Ministry of Education. All citizens must attend school for a minimum of nine years, known as nine-year compulsory education, which is funded by the government.

In large cities like Shanghai, for example, Chinese students spend 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at school with an hour and a half for lunch, but in other areas, kids get to head home for nap time at lunch!
Recent surveys show that 99.9 percent of school-age girls are receiving formal education in China, thanks to decades of efforts by the government to ensure gender equality in education.
Schools in China have discretion when setting their academic calendars. The biggest variance between schools usually occur around long holidays, most notably the summer break, the National Holiday in October, and Chinese New Year in the winter.
Children in China are to be banned from using their phones in school, the Ministry of Education has ruled. Pupils will not be allowed to bring mobiles to school without written parental consent. The authorities say they want to protect young people's eyesight, improve their concentration and prevent internet addiction.
Under the program, more than 600 kids at the Longfu school can enjoy a free school lunch daily. Over the past 10 years, the central government has spent 147.2 billion yuan ($22 billion) on the school meal program, covering 1,762 counties in 29 provinces and 40 million rural students as of May 2020.
That is mostly because the curriculum in Chinese schools differs from the typical Western standards. Strict rules, the emphasis of discipline, endless homework and tests, and constant pressure from peers and teachers – that seems to be the daily life of a Chinese student.

More than 65% of pupils get up between 6am to 6:30am and go to bed between 10pm to 11:30pm.
How long is homework in China? The findings are based on a study by afanti100.com, a Chinese education service provider. They found that primary school students spent an average of 2.64 hours per day to finish their homework, while high school students spent 2.94 hours.
The pooled mean sleep duration in mainland Chinese students from 11 studies with available data was 7.23 hours (95% CI: 6.92–7.61), which was significantly longer than that in students in Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan (6.77 hours, 95% CI: 6.67– 6.88).
Public and Private Schools in China
Public schools are mostly free of charge and this is an initiative by the government to ensure that all children in China have a basic nine-year education. Parents may have to pay for study supplies and uniform.
Chinese Families Spend Heavily on Children's Education. A recently survey conducted by China National Statistic Bureau shows that more than 60 percent of Chinese families spend one-third of their income on their children s education. The survey covered 502 urban residents living in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
And for Americans, until the coronavirus pandemic, China was the most popular destination for study abroad outside of Western Europe, according to an annual State Department-funded survey. Students have been an anchor in the two countries' relations, even when political or economic ties have soured.

Is school in China stressful?
Within such a system and under the weight of elevated educational expectations, Chinese adolescents commonly endure heavy academic stress that is considered to be their most relevant perceived and experienced pressure.
In Finland and Brazil, a 5-hour school day is the average. Germany has the shortest average school day length by country with students spending 4 hours and 30 minutes at school here.
“China has not issued any laws, regulations or policy documents prohibiting the purchase and use of mobile phones from foreign brands such as Apple,” a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson said at a regularly scheduled briefing Wednesday in Beijing.
“According to the 2023 UN report one in seven countries bans the use of mobile phones in schools. Governments have banned cell phones in schools due to the impact on children's learning range from France, Netherlands,Finland and Israel, China, Australia Ontario and Greece to Ghana, Rwanda: and Uganda.”
Uniforms are a common part of the schools in China. Almost all secondary schools as well as some elementary schools require students to wear uniforms. Uniforms in mainland China usually consist of five sets: 2 formal sets and 3 everyday sets.
